We are Hugh Davis (@HughDavis) and Su White (@suukii) - a finally fully retired husband and wife couple from Southampton UK, who cycle as their primary method of transport.
We also have a camper van for holidays, but every now and then we prefer to go for a bike tour, This post contains links to a number of possibly incomplete reports of tours we have done as well as other loosely cycling related blogs going back a number of years,
We maintain these blogs mainly for our own memories, but we know that we have found other people's trip logs interesting and often helpful in terms of the preparations they made, the routes they chose and the equipment they took.
Our Cycle Trips of more than a long weekend have been:
- LEJOG Gently - Land's End to John O'Groats - over 3 weeks in July/August 2012
- ACE Ride - Atlantic Coast Expedition from Santander back to UK via Caen over 3 weeks in July/August 2015
- LNF - Loop Northern France - St Malo - Nantes, up the Loire to Blois and home via Chartres, Rouen and Le Havre, 3 weeks in July/August 2016
- The Gironde Loop Starting and Finishing in Bordeaux, circumnavigating the Gironde Estuary. 1 week in September 2017, taking in the Medoc Marathon at Pauillac.
- L'Avenue Vert via Dieppe to Paris and back home 1 week in September 2019
- Atlantic to Med. Bordeaux via Toulouse to Montpellier (then train to Paris and back to Dieppe via l'Avenue Vert). 2 weeks in August 2022
- Rotterdam or Anywhere: (AKA "Pedal to Parkrun"). In preparation for our trip trip to the Black Sea, a 2 week tour in March 2024 via Dunkirk to Southern Holland (The Hague, Delft, Rotterdam).
- We are currently preparing for and planning a 3 month trip "To the Black Sea" (via EV6) for July/August/September 2024
In addition, I keep a blog, Cycle Touring Equipment, covering the choices of cycling gear, camping equipment, and technology that we have chosen to take with us- in the hope that ot is helpful to others making similar decisions,
Su has now started to use Polarsteps to Blog of our trips, and her Polarsteps blogs for each trip will be linked from the Blogs listed on this page. At present it is not possible for travellers to share a Polarsteps blog, so Su is doing this. The Polarsteps links we are using for each major trip are "public" anyone can follow the link, and elect to follow Su's public blogs (Click on Su's profile and select Follow). In addition, if you have the app (available on iOS or Android) then you can become a registered user and get notifications of people's movements and add comments to their blogs.
